  7. The Committee for the Scientific Investigation of Claims of the
  8. Paranormal (CSICOP) encourages the critical investigation of
  9. paranormal and fringe-science claims from a responsible, scientific
  10. point of view and disseminates factual information about the
  11. results of such inquiries to the scientific community and to the
  12. public. It also promotes science and scientific inquiry, critical
  13. thinking, science education, and the use of reason in examining
  14. important issues. To carry out these objectives, the Committee:

  16. -- Maintains a network of people interested in critically examining
  17. paranormal, fringe-science, and other claims, and in contributing
  18. to consumer education.

  20. -- Prepares bibliographies of published materials that careful
  21. examine such claims.
  22.  
  23. -- Encourages research by objective and impartial inquiry in areas
  24. where it is needed.
  25.  
  26. -- Convenes conferences and meetings.
  27.  
  28. -- Publishes articles that examine claims of the paranormal.
  29.  
  30. -- Does not reject claims on a priori grounds, antecedent to
  31. inquiry, but examines them objectively and carefully.

  33. The Committee is a non-profit scientific and educational organiza-
  34. tion. The Skeptical Inquirer is its official journal, published
  35. semi-monthly. Subscription prices (August 1995): one year (six
  36. issues) $29.50; two years, $49; three years, $69.00. The address
